A recently described tapaculo species with a highly restricted range in the dry montane scrub of Brazil. It is a secretive inhabitant of rocky, shrubby slopes.
Where to spot
Endemic to a small area of dry montane scrub and rocky grasslands in the Espinhaço Mountains of Minas Gerais state, southeastern Brazil.
How to spot
Listen for its distinct vocalizations, which are the primary means of detection. Observing it requires quiet, patient waiting in its specific habitat, scanning for movement among low bushes and rocks.
When to spot
Most active and vocal during early morning and late afternoon. Can be found year-round in its specific rocky scrub habitat.
