The Speckled Wood-Pigeon is a medium-sized, somewhat secretive pigeon found in montane forests, notable for the speckled appearance on its neck and breast. It typically forages on the ground or in low vegetation.
Where to spot
Montane forests of Sulawesi, Indonesia.
How to spot
This species can be quite shy. Look for it foraging quietly on the forest floor or perched low in trees. Patience and a keen eye for camouflage are required. Listen for soft cooing calls.
When to spot
Year-round, primarily active during daylight hours, often in the early morning or late afternoon.

Its speckled plumage provides excellent camouflage amongst the dappled light and leaf litter of its forest understory habitat, making it incredibly difficult to spot despite its size.
