The Key West Quail-Dove is a shy and beautifully iridescent ground-dove primarily found in the Caribbean. It is named for its historic occurrence in the Florida Keys, though now rarely seen there.
Where to spot
Humid forests and woodlands of the Greater Antilles (Cuba, Hispaniola, Puerto Rico, Jamaica, and the Bahamas). Very rarely encountered in Florida.
How to spot
Search for it on the forest floor, often near dense thickets or along trails. Its iridescent purple-green back and distinct white facial stripes (one below and one behind the eye) are key identification marks. Listen for its low, booming, hollow call.

Year-round. Most active at dawn and dusk, when it forages quietly on the ground.
