The Alpine Munia is a small, drab finch endemic to the high altitudes of New Guinea. It is a rather plain brown bird, adapted to its montane habitat.
Where to spot
Endemic to the highest mountains of New Guinea, inhabiting alpine grasslands and subalpine shrubbery above the tree line.
How to spot
Search in the high-altitude grasslands. Its plain brown plumage means careful observation is needed. Look for it foraging on the ground among grasses.
When to spot
Can be observed year-round within its high-altitude habitat. Mornings are often best for activity.
