The Grey-crowned Nigrita is a small, distinctive finch endemic to Nigeria and Cameroon. It possesses a striking grey crown and nape, contrasting with a black face, back, and wings, and a white belly.
Where to spot
Endemic to a restricted range in Nigeria and Cameroon, inhabiting dense lowland rainforests and mature secondary growth.
How to spot
Look for it foraging in the mid-story and understory, often in mixed-species flocks. Its unique grey crown provides a clear identification mark.
When to spot
Year-round within its range. Most active during the early morning and late afternoon.
This species was formerly placed in the genus Nigrita, but recent genetic studies have led to its reclassification into its own genus, Delacourella.
