Spotted
The Red Avadavat, also known as the Strawberry Finch, is a stunning small finch native to tropical Asia, also widely introduced elsewhere. Breeding males are vibrant red with white spots, resembling a strawberry.

Native to tropical Asia (India, Southeast Asia). Widely introduced and established in many other parts of the world, including parts of North America, Europe, and various islands. Inhabits grasslands, savannas, and cultivated areas, especially near water.
How to spot
Look for it foraging in tall grasses or reedbeds. Its vibrant red coloration (in breeding males) and distinctive white spots are unmistakable. Listen for its soft, melodious song.
When to spot
