Spotted
The Siberian Bunting, also known as the Ochre-rumped Bunting, is a small, streaky bunting found in eastern Asia. It typically has a pale, unstreaked rump.
Where to spot
Breeds in southeastern Siberia and northeastern China. Winters in southern China, Korea, and Japan, often in reedbeds and open wetlands.
How to spot
Look for it foraging in open grassy areas or reedbeds. Note its streaky brown plumage and the unmarked pale rump, which is visible in flight. Listen for its simple calls.
When to spot
Best observed during the breeding season in summer in its northern range, or during migration (spring and autumn) and winter in its southern range.
