Where to spot
Endemic to Japan, primarily Honshu, Shikoku, and Kyushu. Inhabits open woodlands, forest edges, cultivated lands, and gardens.
How to spot
Look for it in open, bushy areas. Its bright yellow underparts are distinctive. Listen for its short, clear song.

Resident year-round. Most active and vocal during the breeding season (spring and summer).
