Where to spot
Endemic to the humid montane forests of the Serra do Mar coastal range in southeastern Brazil, particularly in the states of Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo.
How to spot
Listen for its distinct vocalizations. It is extremely shy and difficult to see; focus on detecting it by sound and then waiting patiently near the source in dense cover, especially in ravines or near streams.
When to spot

This species was part of the 'Mouse-colored Tapaculo' complex and was elevated to distinct species status based on vocal and genetic differences, specifically inhabiting the Serra do Mar mountain range.
