Spotted
The Seram Imperial-Pigeon (Ducula neglecta) is a large, handsome pigeon endemic to the island of Seram in Indonesia. It is a shy and largely arboreal species, often found foraging in the dense forest canopy.
Where to spot
Endemic to the island of Seram in the southern Moluccas (Maluku), Indonesia. Primarily inhabits lowland and montane rainforests, from sea level up to 1,300 meters.
How to spot
Patience is key due to its shy nature. Scan the mid to upper canopy of tall forest trees, particularly those bearing fruit. Listen for its characteristic deep, booming calls, which can be the primary way to detect its presence.
When to spot
Active throughout the year. Like other imperial-pigeons, it is most active during the early morning and late afternoon hours, when it feeds on fruits.
