Spotted
The Cream-bellied Fruit Dove is a beautiful species with an emerald green body, a distinctive cream-colored belly, and a pale cap. This relatively large fruit dove is endemic to the Philippines, inhabiting various forest types.
Where to spot
Endemic to the Philippines, found on islands such as Luzon, Mindanao, and Sibuyan. Inhabits lowland rainforests and lower montane forests.
How to spot
Scan the mid to upper canopy of large fruiting trees. Despite its size, its green plumage can provide excellent camouflage. Listen for its soft, deep cooing calls, which are often the first indication of its presence.
When to spot
Most active in the early morning and late afternoon while foraging for fruits. It is a resident species, observable throughout the year.
While many fruit doves are brightly colored, the Cream-bellied Fruit Dove's subtler palette, combined with its cream belly, gives it a unique elegance and soft beauty among its more flamboyant relatives.
