Lowland humid rainforests within the Amazon basin, including parts of Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, and Brazil, typically below 800 meters elevation.
How to spot
Look for it walking deliberately on the forest floor, often near streams or damp areas, blending remarkably well with the leaf litter. Listen for its soft, low, mournful cooing calls, which can help in locating this secretive species.
