The Sandy Scops Owl is a small, pale owl found in the tropical forests of West and Central Africa. It is characterized by its sandy-buff plumage and yellow eyes.
Where to spot
West and Central Africa, from Sierra Leone to Uganda. Inhabits lowland rainforests and mature secondary forests.
How to spot
Listen for its monotonous, repeated hoot. Look for its sandy-buff plumage and relatively short ear tufts. Spotlighting at night in its preferred forest habitat.
When to spot
Strictly nocturnal, active from dusk to dawn.
