The Enggano Scops Owl is a small, critically endangered owl endemic to Enggano Island off Sumatra, Indonesia. It is a secretive forest resident facing severe habitat loss.
Where to spot
Endemic to Enggano Island, off the west coast of Sumatra, Indonesia, inhabiting lowland forests.
How to spot
Extremely difficult to observe due to its rarity and restricted island habitat. Identification relies on its characteristic scops owl features and its very precise geographic range. Listening for calls at night in appropriate forest habitat is the most likely method.
When to spot
Strictly nocturnal.
