The Pharaoh Eagle Owl is a large, pale owl found across the deserts and rocky landscapes of North Africa and the Middle East. Its sandy plumage provides excellent camouflage in arid environments.

Deserts, semi-deserts, and rocky mountains from Morocco across North Africa to the Arabian Peninsula and parts of the Middle East.
How to spot
Listen for its deep, resonant hooting calls. Look for it perched on cliffs or prominent rocks at night using a spotlight, often near its nesting sites.
When to spot
Nocturnal. Most active after dusk. Its calls often echo impressively through desert wadis.
