Rüppell's Starling is an iridescent starling from East Africa, featuring a deeply glossy purple-blue head and upperparts, with a contrasting darker belly. It is a stunning bird in good light.
Where to spot
Primarily found in East Africa, including Ethiopia, Sudan, Eritrea, and parts of Uganda and Kenya, inhabiting dry savannas, acacia woodlands, and thornbush.
How to spot
Look for the distinct iridescent purple-blue sheen on its head and back, contrasting with its darker underparts. Scan acacia trees and open, arid landscapes.
When to spot
Most active during the early morning and late afternoon. Resident species.
