Hildebrandt's Starling is a dazzling East African starling, renowned for its brilliant iridescent blue-green upperparts, rich orange belly, and deep red eyes. It is one of Africa's most colorful starlings.
Where to spot
Endemic to East Africa, primarily found in Kenya and Tanzania, inhabiting savannas, open woodlands, and thornbush country, often near human settlements.
How to spot
Its iridescent blue-green back and vibrant orange belly are unmistakable. Look for them on the ground or perched conspicuously on trees and bushes. They are quite approachable.
When to spot
Easily observed throughout the day, especially in open areas where they forage for insects and fruits. Resident birds.
