The Lesser Striped Swallow is a common and widespread swallow found throughout much of sub-Saharan Africa. It is characterized by its rufous forehead, blue-black upperparts, and finely streaked white underparts.
Where to spot
Open country, savannas, grasslands, and human settlements, often near water, throughout sub-Saharan Africa.
How to spot
Look for its rufous forehead, blue-black back, and fine streaking on the white underparts. It has a deeply forked tail. Observe its swift, agile flight. Often seen around its unique nests.
When to spot
Year-round resident, though some populations may undertake local or seasonal movements. Active during daylight hours.
