Humid lowland rainforests throughout the Amazon basin, including Brazil, the Guianas, Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Bolivia.
How to spot
Scan the canopy and upper mid-story of tall fruiting trees. The male's vibrant blue with dark spangles and purple throat are unmistakable. They tend to be silent and sit still.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Best observed in the early morning and late afternoon when foraging for fruits.
