The Red-bellied Macaw is a medium-sized green macaw with a distinctive bare yellow facial patch and a large, rust-colored belly patch. It is found in palm swamps.
Where to spot
Mauritia palm swamps and adjacent savannas and forests throughout the Amazon basin and parts of the Guyanas.
How to spot
Look for them in or around large Mauritia palm groves, their primary food source. Listen for their distinctive, high-pitched 'scree-AAH' calls. They often fly in small flocks.
When to spot
Year-round. Most active during the day, particularly noticeable when flying between feeding and roosting sites.
