Spotted
A small, unassuming sunbird, the Plain Sunbird has plain olive-green upperparts and dull yellowish-green underparts, lacking the vibrant iridescence typical of many sunbirds. It has a short, straight bill.
Where to spot
Widespread across Southeast Asia, including Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, Borneo, and parts of Indochina. Inhabits lowland and secondary forests.
How to spot
Look for it in the mid-story and canopy of forests, often near flowering plants. Its lack of prominent markings is itself a key identification feature, along with its straight bill.
