Freshwater lakes, rivers, swamps, and coastal estuaries throughout sub-Saharan Africa, Madagascar, and parts of the Middle East and India.

Look for its greyish-white body with a subtle pinkish tinge on the back (more visible in good light), grey legs, and yellowish bill. Often seen fishing cooperatively.

Year-round. Most active during daylight hours, often seen fishing or resting in groups.
