Listen for its deep, booming hoot, which can carry over long distances. Spotting is challenging due to its dense habitat and rarity; use a spotlight to scan high branches.
When to spot
Nocturnal. Best observed by its calls from dusk to dawn. Visual sightings are rare and challenging.
This owl's striking rufous and barred plumage provides excellent camouflage in the dense tropical forests of the Philippines, allowing it to blend seamlessly into its arboreal home.
