The Orange-chinned Parakeet is a widespread small parakeet found from Central America to northern South America. It is identifiable by its green plumage and a small but noticeable orange patch on its chin.
Where to spot
Humid to semi-arid lowlands, including forest edges, clearings, secondary growth, and cultivated areas, from southern Mexico to northern Venezuela and Colombia.
How to spot
Listen for their loud, squawking calls, often given in flight. Look for small, fast-flying green birds. The orange chin can be hard to spot without good binoculars and light.
When to spot
Active and visible throughout the day, particularly noisy at dawn and dusk as they leave and return to roosts. It is present year-round.
