The Western Olive Sunbird is a small, relatively drab sunbird, predominantly olive-green in plumage, which helps it blend into its forest habitat. It is a shy and elusive species, often found foraging in the understory.
Where to spot
Inhabits primary and secondary forests, forest edges, and dense woodland thickets across West and Central Africa, from Sierra Leone to Angola and Uganda.
How to spot
This species can be challenging to spot due to its duller coloration and preference for dense vegetation. Listen for its quiet, high-pitched calls and look carefully in the lower and middle strata of the forest.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Best observed during early mornings or late afternoons when foraging activity is higher. Its quiet nature means patience is key.

Despite its somewhat subdued plumage compared to its more colorful relatives, the Western Olive Sunbird plays a crucial role in pollinating various forest plants, especially those with green or inconspicuous flowers.
