Spotted
The Ochre-striped Antpitta is a distinctive antpitta with a prominent ochre or rufous stripe running from its bill to behind its eye, contrasting with its dark plumage.
Where to spot
Inhabits the understory of humid lowland and foothill forests, often near bamboo, in the western Amazon basin of southeastern Colombia, eastern Ecuador, and northeastern Peru.
How to spot
Listen for its strong, distinctive calls. Search in dense bamboo and vine tangles. While skulking, its calls can be a good indicator of its presence.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Most vocal during early morning.
