Spotted
The Elusive Antpitta is a medium-sized antpitta, aptly named for its highly secretive nature. It has a relatively plain brownish plumage with a paler belly.
Where to spot
Inhabits the understory of humid lowland forests in the western Amazon basin, specifically eastern Peru and western Brazil.
How to spot
Extreme patience is required. Listen intently for its subtle, often low-frequency calls. Focus on dense leaf litter and areas with plenty of fallen logs.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Most vocal during early morning.
This species is known for being particularly difficult to observe, often remaining hidden in dense undergrowth and only occasionally revealing itself briefly.
