Endemic to the island of New Britain, found in primary and old secondary lowland forest.
How to spot
Observing this species requires significant patience and local knowledge. Focus efforts in undisturbed, dense forest areas within its known range, moving very quietly and scanning the forest floor.
When to spot
Year-round, but observations are exceptionally rare given its elusive nature and limited distribution. Best chances during daylight hours.
Due to its restricted range and secretive habits, the New Britain Ground Dove is one of the least studied members of its family, making every sighting significant.
