Spotted
The Negros Fruit Dove is a critically endangered and enigmatic species, known only from a few specimens collected in the Philippines. Its common name, 'Mysterious Fruit Dove,' reflects its extreme rarity and elusive nature.
Where to spot
Endemic to the island of Negros in the Philippines, inhabiting montane forests. Its existence is precarious.
How to spot
This bird is incredibly difficult to find. Focus on high-altitude montane forests on Negros, particularly areas with fruiting trees. A sighting would be exceptional and contribute significantly to scientific knowledge.
When to spot
Any time of day, as observations are extremely rare. Focus on early morning or late afternoon if specifically searching.
Discovered in 1953, this species has only been observed a handful of times since, leading to its 'mysterious' moniker and high conservation priority. Its very existence remains largely unstudied.
