A medium-sized, bluish-grey pigeon, distinguished from the Rock Dove by the lack of a white rump and less prominent wing bars. It has a gentle, mournful call.

Woodlands, parks, agricultural areas with scattered trees, and urban green spaces across Europe, western Asia, and North Africa.
How to spot
Look for its uniform bluish-grey plumage, darker eye, and the absence of a white rump patch. The two black wing bars are much less distinct than on a Rock Dove. Listen for its low, soft 'ooo-uh-ooo' call.
When to spot
Year-round in most of its range, with some migratory movements in northern areas. Most active during daylight.
