The Moustached Babbler is a distinctive species named for its prominent dark moustachial stripe. It is a relatively large and active babbler of the forest mid-story and undergrowth.
Where to spot
Found in Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, and Borneo. It inhabits lowland and hill evergreen forests, preferring dense undergrowth, bamboo, and often streamsides.
How to spot
Look for its prominent dark moustachial stripe. It moves actively through dense foliage, often at eye-level or slightly above. Listen for its short, whistled calls and chattering, often given by small groups.
When to spot
Resident year-round. Most active during the early morning and late afternoon, often as part of mixed-species foraging flocks.
