Found in the montane forests of East-Central Africa, including countries like Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, and Tanzania. It prefers dense undergrowth and bamboo thickets at higher elevations.
How to spot
Listen for its soft, often repeated, whistled calls. Look for a plain brownish bird moving quietly and quickly through dense low vegetation. Patience and careful searching are often required.
When to spot
Resident year-round. Most active during the early morning and late afternoon. Its secretive nature makes it challenging to observe.
