Spotted
The Swamp Grass Babbler is a highly secretive and specialized species, named for its preferred habitat of dense tall grass and marshy areas. It is rarely seen, more often identified by its calls.
Where to spot
Found in parts of Southeast Asia, specifically in Myanmar and Thailand. It inhabits dense, swampy grasslands, reedbeds, and tall marsh vegetation, particularly near water bodies.
How to spot
Listen for its loud, sharp, and distinctive calls, often a repeated 'chack-chack-chack' or 'chit-chit-chit'. Observing it visually requires extreme patience and often relies on brief glimpses as it moves through dense cover.
When to spot
Resident year-round. Most vocal during the breeding season (monsoon to post-monsoon), when males sing from hidden perches. Early mornings are generally the most active period.

This species is a master of camouflage, blending seamlessly into the dense, vertical stalks of its reedy habitat, making it incredibly difficult to spot.
