The Mountain White-eye is a widespread and common species found in the montane forests of the Greater Sundas. It is a typical white-eye with green plumage and a prominent eye-ring.
Where to spot
Found in montane forests across the Greater Sunda Islands (Sumatra, Java, Borneo) and the Philippines. Inhabits montane evergreen forests, often at higher elevations.
How to spot
Look for its bright white eye-ring, olive-green upperparts, and pale underparts. Often found in active flocks, foraging for insects and nectar in the mid-canopy. Listen for its clear, high-pitched, twittering calls.
When to spot
Resident year-round. Active during the day. Easily observed throughout the year.
This species exhibits considerable plumage variation across its wide range, leading to many recognized subspecies.
