Where to spot
Humid montane forests at higher elevations, primarily in parts of Indochina.
How to spot
Look for it in the mid-story and sub-canopy of montane forests. Listen for its whistled calls, similar to its close relatives. Its maroon back is a key identification feature.

This species was formerly considered a subspecies of the Silver-breasted Broadbill but is now recognized as a distinct species due to its unique coloration and genetic differences.
