Spotted
An elegant ground-dwelling bird native to the Malay Peninsula and parts of Sumatra. Males display stunning metallic blue-green ocelli on their plumage, particularly on the tail and coverts.
Where to spot
Primarily found in lowland rainforests and mature secondary forests of Peninsular Malaysia, southern Thailand, and Sumatra.
How to spot
Remain quiet and still in dense forest undergrowth. Look for movement on the forest floor as they forage for insects and fallen fruits, or listen for their soft calls echoing through the forest.
When to spot
Early mornings and late afternoons are optimal when they are most active searching for food, though they can be found throughout the day in undisturbed areas.
