Widespread across South and Southeast Asia, from India and Sri Lanka east to Indonesia and the Philippines. Inhabits lakes, rivers, marshes, and reservoirs.
How to spot
Look for its slender body, entirely dark (often greenish-glossed) plumage, and short, hooked bill. Often seen swimming low in the water, diving frequently, or perched with wings outstretched to dry. Distinguished from Little Cormorant by larger size and from Great Cormorant by smaller size and more slender neck.

Can be observed year-round in its resident range. Active throughout the day, often seen fishing or perched to dry its feathers.
