Where to spot
Find Hume's Owl in rocky wadis, desert oases, and mountainous regions with scattered trees and shrubs across North Africa, the Middle East, and parts of the Arabian Peninsula.
How to spot
Listen for their distinctive hooting calls at night. Searching for roosting sites in rock formations or cliffs during the day might reveal a camouflaged individual.
When to spot
Nocturnal, with peak activity at night. Observing them is best during the cooler hours after sunset and before sunrise.
This owl is highly adapted to desert and semi-desert environments, often nesting in rocky crevices or abandoned buildings, and is particularly active during the cooler parts of the night.
