The Anjouan Scops Owl is a critically endangered owl endemic to Anjouan Island in the Comoros. It is a rare and highly localized species restricted to fragmented montane forests.

Endemic to Anjouan Island, Comoros. Inhabits humid montane forests, often at higher altitudes.
How to spot
Extremely difficult to observe due to its rarity and restricted montane forest habitat. Primarily identified by its distinctive, low-pitched hoot. Requires dedicated nocturnal searches within remnant forest patches.
When to spot
Strictly nocturnal. Observations are exceptionally rare.
This owl is one of the rarest birds in the Comoros, known from only a few observations and facing severe threats from habitat loss and human disturbance, making it a conservation priority.
