Spotted
The Honeyguide Greenbul is a robust, olive-green bulbul with a sturdy bill, named for a superficial resemblance in bill shape to honeyguides. It is a secretive forest species.
Where to spot
Found in West and Central Africa, inhabiting the understory and mid-story of primary and mature secondary rainforests, often in dense thickets.
How to spot
Listen for its distinctive, loud, ringing calls, which are often the best way to locate this elusive bird. Look for it foraging low in dense vegetation, where its drab plumage provides camouflage.
When to spot
Observable year-round in its resident tropical habitat. Most active during the day, often heard calling from within dense cover.

Despite its common name, the Honeyguide Greenbul has no known association with leading humans or other animals to beehives, unlike true honeyguides (Indicatoridae family). Its name refers solely to bill morphology.
