The Ochraceous Bulbul is a common bulbul recognized by its olive-brown plumage and often a warm, ochraceous (yellowish-brown) wash on its underparts. It is a widespread forest inhabitant.
Where to spot
Widespread across mainland Southeast Asia and parts of the Malay Peninsula. Inhabits primary and secondary forests, forest edges, and dense scrub.
How to spot
Look for its overall olive-brown coloration and the warm ochraceous wash on its belly. Listen for its varied, often chattering calls. It can be seen actively foraging in dense foliage.
When to spot
Observable year-round in its resident tropical habitat. Most active during daylight hours, especially in the morning.
This species often participates in mixed-species foraging flocks, moving through the middle and lower strata of the forest, benefiting from the collective search for insects and fruits.
