Where to spot
Breeds across northern and central Europe, and much of northern and central Asia, inhabiting forests, woodlands, and parks. Winters predominantly in tropical South Asia.
How to spot
Look for a rather plain, greenish-grey warbler with a prominent supercilium and a single, often indistinct, yellowish wing-bar (though some subspecies may show two). Its song is a rapid, rattling trill that varies geographically. Observe its active foraging behavior in the canopy.
When to spot
Best observed during the breeding season (May-July) when males are singing frequently. Migration periods (April-May for spring, August-October for autumn) offer opportunities for observation across its migratory routes.

The Greenish Warbler is a classic example of a 'ring species,' where populations around a central geographical barrier (like the Tibetan Plateau) can interbreed with their immediate neighbors but not with distant populations at the ends of the 'ring.'
