Spotted
The Green-backed Honeyguide is a small, subtly plumaged bird with olive-green upperparts. Like other honeyguides, it is a brood parasite, relying on other bird species to raise its young. It inhabits moist broadleaf forests, often remaining high in the canopy.
Where to spot
Native to tropical and subtropical moist broadleaf forests across West, Central, and East Africa, from Nigeria to Uganda, Rwanda, and Tanzania.
How to spot
Extremely difficult to observe visually due to its small size and high canopy preference. Listen intently for its distinctive, often high-pitched, metallic trilling or insect-like calls, which are the primary way to detect its presence.
When to spot
Active year-round. It is often more vocal during the breeding season. Best chances of detection are by ear rather than sight.

Its common name refers to its olive-green back, a distinguishing feature that helps it blend into the forest foliage.
