The Greater Amakihi was an extinct Hawaiian honeycreeper endemic to Hawaii Island. It was a larger, more robust amakihi species with a notably longer, more strongly decurved bill than its relatives.
Where to spot
Historically endemic to the high-elevation native 'ōhi'a forests of Hawaii Island, primarily on Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa.
How to spot
Observation is no longer possible. Historically, it was identified by its larger size, green-yellow plumage, and conspicuously long, curved bill compared to other amakihis, often seen probing large flowers.
When to spot
Last definitively observed in 1901 and is considered extinct. It is no longer observable.
