The Langbian Shrike-Babbler is a distinctive and relatively large shrike-babbler endemic to the Langbian Plateau in southern Vietnam. It combines a robust, shrike-like bill with babbler characteristics.
Where to spot
Endemic to the Langbian Plateau in southern Vietnam. Inhabits montane evergreen and pine-oak forests, typically in the mid-story and canopy.
How to spot
Listen for its varied calls, including harsh chatters and clear whistles. Look for it moving deliberately through the upper branches. The stout, hooked bill and distinct plumage patterns are key identification marks.
When to spot
Resident year-round. Most active during the early morning. Often observed in pairs or small family groups, sometimes joining mixed-species flocks.
This species exhibits sexual dimorphism, with males having more striking plumage than females, a common trait among shrike-babblers.
