A distinctive sunbird, male Western Banded Sunbirds have iridescent green upperparts, a grey throat, and a prominent dark band across the chest separating it from the yellow belly. Females are duller.
Where to spot
Found in West and Central Africa, inhabiting primary and secondary lowland forests.
How to spot
Look for it in the mid-story and canopy of forests, especially where flowering trees are present. The chest band and grey throat are key identification features.
When to spot
Active year-round, with peak foraging in the early morning and late afternoon.
