The Grey-breasted Martin is a common and widespread swallow found throughout much of Central and South America. It is characterized by its glossy blue-black upperparts and contrasting grey breast and white belly.

Open areas, fields, savannas, forest clearings, urban and suburban areas, throughout Central and South America.
How to spot
Look for the clear contrast between its dark iridescent upperparts and grey breast, which fades into a white belly. It often perches conspicuously on wires or buildings and flies with characteristic soaring glides.
When to spot
Year-round resident in most of its range, though some populations may undertake local migrations. Active during daylight hours.
