The Superb Pitta is a stunning pitta species with a black head, a bright blue crown and back, and a contrasting vibrant red belly. It is endemic to Sumatra.
Where to spot
Primary and mature secondary montane and lowland humid forests on the island of Sumatra, Indonesia.
How to spot
Listen for its clear, whistled calls, which are the primary way to locate this elusive bird. Look for movement on the forest floor in dense undergrowth.
When to spot
Year-round. Most vocal during the breeding season. Active during daylight hours.
