A distinctive sunangel species known for its elaborate white throat band bordering the iridescent gorget, which is typically coppery-red or orange. It is a striking inhabitant of Andean cloud forests.
Where to spot
Humid montane forests and forest borders in the Andes of southwestern Colombia and northwestern Ecuador, usually at elevations between 1,700 and 3,000 meters.
How to spot
Search for them near flowering trees and shrubs, especially those with tubular flowers. They can often be attracted to hummingbird feeders, providing excellent viewing opportunities. Watch for their characteristic hovering flight.

Active throughout the day, year-round. Best observed during periods of flowering abundance in its habitat.
