Where to spot
Widespread across New Guinea and several satellite islands (e.g., Aru Islands, Raja Ampat Islands). Inhabits lowland rainforests and forest edges.
How to spot
Males are easily identified by their bright yellow underparts, black head, white throat, and a prominent golden-yellow forehead. Females are duller. Listen for its loud, clear, and rich whistling songs.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Most vocal during the breeding season, but active throughout the year, especially in the early morning and late afternoon.
The male's golden forehead patch is a particularly eye-catching feature, contrasting with its black head, making it highly recognizable.
